TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above was held on Tuesday. Present—Messrs J. Talbct (chairman), F. Parke, P. Ooira, J. Fraser, and W. Snell. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: —
From the ranger and poundkeeper, applying for a reduction of the rent of the pound. Very few cattle were now allowed to wander at large, and the pound fees were not remunerative. —Resolved : “That the rent be reduced to £5 per annum, on condition that the poundkeeper keep the yaw's in good order.” From Mr O. Rowland, applying to have his name placed on the roll in respect of sections at Orari lately occupied by Mr P. Hansen, Orari. —Agreed to. From Mr M. Quinn, applying to have his name removed from the roll in respect of R.S. 12,891,12,892, and Reserve 1190, and those of Mr J. T. M. Hayhurst and the Akaroa High School Board substituted. —Agreed to, subject to adjustment of proportionate rates and owners’ consent.
From Mr J. M, Naughton, requesting that the fords at Smith tHld be repaired prior to the grain carting season. —The overseer to inspect and have any reasonable work done.
From Mr 0. H. Tripp, Timaru, asking for information as to amount of rates payable on certain sections. —The clerk had replied. From Messrs T, Talbot and others drawing attention to the condition of the road from Braddick’s corner to Sharp’s, and requesting that the same be shingled before the harvest. —After discussion and some explanation from the overseer, it was resolved that tenders be called for the ah’ugling of the worst portion. overseer’s report.
The overseer’s report was read and dealt with as follows ; “ To the Chairman, “ Sir, —1 have the honor to report for the past month as follows: —Tenders have been invited for the right to cpt and gather cocksfoot seed on the roads, and the tender of Mr Amos Hope at £6 10s has been accepted. The following works have been completed and passed for payment : Contract No. 74, Shingling road by Budd’s; Contract No. 64, Forming part of Main South Road; Contract No. 68, Carting Shingle for repairs; Contract No, 75, Shingling part of Talbot’s road. A stock bridge has been built over the Ohapi Creek neat Mr Crompton’s, fords repaired, and general repairs to bridges done. The lengthening of footbridge near the Manse has not yet been commenced, owing to holidays and broken weather.—l have, etc., “F. Archer.” THE OHHI CROSSING. The chairman stated that he had, with other members of the board, inspected the lower Milford crossing. It appeared that the only safe way Would be to go across a portion of Mr Wareing’s land. Mr Wareing offered a track for £5 a year, and he, the chairman, considered this was the cheapest course. If the river shifted its course the old ford might be established. —lt was agreed to approve of Mr Wareiug’s offer, and to have the work done at once. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £371 2s were passed for payment* and the meeting terminated.
