THE MELBOURNE INFANTICIDE CASES.
Melbourne, Jan. 6. A detective has made full investigations into the antecedents of the woman Know, who lies under sentence of death for child murder. In his detailed reports he states that she is a woman of immoral character and of hardened nature, but he found it impossible to trace with any degree of accuracy the number of children who have been entrusted to her care, The eondemnad woman is now much calmer, and more resigned to her fate. Her execution is fixed for Monday week.
Jan. 7.
Mrs Knorr has made a statement to the effect that three children entrusted to her care met with their deaths through the agency of a man whose name was coupled with hers during the late trial. The police are enquiring into the matter. Jones, the hangman, received a letter from the assistant-hangman, stating that he declined to haug the condemned woman Knorr. Jones himself was strongly averse to undertaking the operation and this preyed on his mind, for he proceeded to his room in the gaol and committed suicide by cutting his throat.
