MILFORD SCHOOL.

The annual treat in connection with the Milford School took place on Friday last. At the invitation of Mr J. T. M. Hayhurst the gathering took place at Green Hays, and a prettier or more suitable place could not be found. The children met at the school at half-past eleven o'clock, and shortly after, with some of the parents and friends, proceeded to Green Hays in a number of traps and vehicles. Here every preparation had been made by Mr and Mrs Hayhurst for the enjoyment of the holiday makers, and refreshments were at once dispensed. After this the distribution of prizes took place. The chairman of the Milford School Committee, Mr Christmas, made a few remarks on school matters, and called on Mr Hayhurst to make the presentations. The prizes were really splendid ones, and showed in a most unmistakeable manner tho liberality of the resident/of Milford and district, and the interest taken in the school. The prizes for the sewing are deserving of special mention for their excellence. Two special prizes were given by Mr J. T. M. Hayhurst, and others by Mesdames Hayhurst, Guild, and Woodhead. Mr Hayhurst, in making the presents, addressed a few suitable remarks to the recipients, and this feature over, sports of all kinds were gone on with, and kept up merrily until about half-past five o'clock. During the afternoon a race between the members of the committee was promoted by Mr Hayhurst, who gave a valuable aneroid barometer as a prize. Five of the committeemen took part in it, and the race, which excited great interest, was won by the popular chairman, Mr Christmas, who received quite an ovation. The record was not broken, but good time was madeand the contestants showed considerable spirit and fine form. After the snorts were concluded refreshments again partaken of, and the proceedings wound up with three cheers for Mr and Mrs Hayhurat for. their generous hospitality, the same for the donors of special prizes, and another three for the chairman. The treat was undoubtedly the most enjoyable and successful ever held in connection with the school, aud the committee desire to tender their sincerest thanks to Mr and Mrs Hayhurst, and all who in any way assisted in bringing about this result.
