CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKET.

At the Addington Yards on Wednesday there was a medium attendance.

Store Sheep—ln store sheep there was a amall entry, mostly 2-tooth crossbreds, which sold fairly well, but older sheep were neglected. Fat Sheep—Between 5000 and 6000 were penned, the majority crossbred ewes. The quality was medium, and very few could be classed as freezers. Sales opened at about last week's rates, but it was soon evident that requirements were small. A number were passed, and those that changed hands, with the exception of a few pens of prime wethers, did so at a reduction in values. Crossbred wethers 12s to 16s lOd, ewes 8s to 14s Bd, mixed sexes 13s 3d, mixed wethers and maiden ewes 13a to 14s, halfbred wethers 12s 2d, ewes 9s lOd to 123 Id, merino wethers 6s Id to 12s 9d, ewes 5s to lis 4d. Fat Lambs—l2oo on offer of fair average quality. As only a few were taken for export and trade requirements were not equal to the supply, a drop of from Is to 2s per head took place, and prices ranged from 6s 6d to lis 6d. Fat Cattle—ln fat cattle, 187 head, chiefly light-weight steers and heifers, were yarded. Business was fairly brisk and prices well maintained. Steers i$ J7s 6d to £9 ss, heifers £5 5s to £Blos, cows U IJs 6d to £8 10s. Store store cattle a medium entry met with a ftrmer market than for some time past. Yearlings sold at from £llos to £2,18 months' old cattle £3 to £3 10s.

Pigs—About 160 pigs were penned and all classes sold well. Baconers 32s 6d to 58s, porkers 20s to 30s, stores 10s to 20s.

DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday : Wheat—Prime milling, 2s 9dto 2slod; medium quality, 2s 7d to 2s Bd. Fowls' wheat, 2» 4d to 2s 7d. Demand quiet; prices low. Oats—A small foqujry for local consumption ; very little doing in shipping. Prime feed and milling, Is lid; other qualities, Is lOd to Is IOJd. Potatoes —New kidneys, £lO to £l2 per ton. Chaff—Prime quality, £3l2s Gd ; good to medium, £3 &8 to £O. Salt Bilker—7d per lb, prime quality, packages la each. Cheese—Prime factory, 4fd; loaf, od; Akaroa, 4|d to 4f d. Grass Seeds—Ryegrass, 2s 6d to ite 5 machined from 3s 9d to 4a 6d ; cocksfoot, 3£d to fid. Bacon, 6Jd; hams, B£d. Honey—From 3jd to 4£d.

Sheepskins—Large catalogues were put forward at the sales on Tuesday, and prices for inferior skins were somewhat easier than of late, although well Baved oroßsbreda brought late quotations. A considerable number of lambskins and pelts are now coming into the market. These meet with good demand —pelts at from 4d to Is 4d, lambskins from Od to Is 6d each. Quotations : Best green crossbreds, 5s 4d to 5s 9d; medium to good, 4s 9d to 5s 2d ; others, 3s Gd to 4s ; best green merinos, 2s lid to 3s 8d ; green pelts, 8d to is 4d; best green lambskins, la Id to Is 7d; others, 1(M to Is; dry pelts, 4d to Is 3d ; country dry crossbreds, inferior to medium, Is 8d to 3s ; do merino, Is 6d to 2d 2d; best f ull-woolled crossbreds, 4s 9d to 5s 9d; extra heavy, 5s lOd to 6s; medium quality, 33 Id to 4s; full-woolled merinos, best, 3a Gd to 4s 4d; medium to good, 2s 4d to 3s. Hides—Clean well-flayed heavy hides meet with a good demand, but inferior and light are unsaleable, except at low rates, tjuoj&tions : For best heavy hides (601 b and ovev, £r<se from cuts), 2Jd to 3d; medium, U& to 2£d; light and inferior, Id to l£d per lb. Tallow—The demand for all descriptions •js fcccjQn, all lots being readily purchased on »rriy4 &t purrent rates. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS. Ajfc fchf} Burnside Market on Wednesday the following business was transacted : Fat head yarded, a full Biipply. Only two-fchjrds of thjs number could be regarded as "killable/ ; the remaiuing third consisting for the most part of aged cows, in little better than forward store condition. Included in the supply were three or four small drafts of exceptionally prijfte bullocks and cows, cattle evideutly whieh had bpen specially fattened for Christmas. Prime bullocks (heavy weights), realised from £iQ 10s to £l2 23 Gd ; do do (medium weights),, from £8 to £10; do do (light weights), from £6 to £7lss; prime cows (heavy weights), brought from £LO to £ll 5s ; do do ((medium weights), from £7 10s to £0 13s Gd, do d# (Ught weights), from £G to £7; aged and jnfejrior, £,3. to $5 10s. prices ranged as follows :—Crossbred wethers in the wool, from 16s to 18s 6d ; crossbred ewes in the wool, from 15s to 18s 9d; prime crossbred wethers, shorn, from 14s to 15a 6d ; prime crossbred ewes, shorn, from 13s to 15s—one pen exceptionally heavy made 16s ; medium quality ewes and wethers ranged from 10s to 12s 6d. Fat Lambs—B74 penned, and although prices were easier a sale on the whole very salisfactory resulted, the range of values being from 7s to 10s 6d. Pigs—63 penned, consisting of the various classes in about equal proportions. There is a keen demand for half and fullgrown stores. Values ranged as follows : —Bacon pigs from 34s 6d to 475, extra heavy weights to 675, porkers 24s to 30s, stores 14s to 225.

CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. The auctioneers' reports on the weekly skin sales are as follows: Mr F. C. Tabart sold 1147 skins, 30 hides, 47 pkgs fat, at the following prices : —Best half breds, 4i to ss; best merinos, 3s lOd to 4s 2d ; medium do, 2s 6d to. 3s 9d; lambs, Ib 9d; pelts, Is 3d; rough fat (per lb), lfd to 2d; hides and calfskins, withont alteration. Messrß Wilson and Sous sold wool, skins, hides and fat at the following prices, the supply being about the average : —Crossbreds, 4s lid ; merinos, 3s to 3a lOd; pelts Is to Is 7d; lambs, la to Is 9d; wool, fleece merinos sjd to s§d, do crossbreds 6jd to 7|d, locks and pieces lid to 2d ; fat and hides, at late prices. Tone of market— Steady.

AUCKLAND WOOL SALES. Auckland, Dec. 13. At the first wool sales of the season today, 4000 bales were submitted. Satisfactory prices were realised; the wool on the whole being better worth a farthing to a halfpenny per lb. Merino, on the contrary, was slightly lower than last season. The condition of much of the wool was heavy, being damp and more cotted than usual. Prices ranged—crossbreds, 6£d to 8d ; long wool, 6£d to 7|d; merino, s£d to 6Jd. The sale« are proceeding. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, December 13. Wheat, chick, 3s 3d to 3s 4£d; milling, 3s 6d to 3s 7d, nominal. Flour, roller-made, £8 12s 6d to £Bl4s. Oats are steady. Prime, 2s BJd. Maize, 3s 6d. Barley, English, 3s. Peas, Prussian blue, 4s 9d to 4s lOd. Bran, 7£d; pollard, 8f ato 9d. Potatoes, local grown, £4 to £4 15s. Onions, £7 10s to £lo. Butter, dairy-made, 6d to 7d ; factorymade, Bd. ! Cheese, prime, 4d to 4£d. Bacon, 6d to 7d; hams, New Zealand, Is o*d. Mr Valentine, the New Zealand dairy expert, has been interviewed. He says that before the colonies can do much good in butter trade they must distribute their produce more freely and export direct to Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, and Bristol. He strongly favors State supervision and grading. There is a good opening for cheese in England, but the article must be of the finest quality. Dec. 14.

A strong tone has pervaded the wool market during the week, and Continental buyers have purchased largely. Prices, although not quotably higher, have tended in favor of producers. Greasy crossbreds are bringing 6Jd to lOd; scoured, 10£d to Is s£d. One specially chartered steamer takes among other produce this.week 450 tons of butter, valued at £45,000, from Melbourne and Sydney. Bidding at the wool sales was spirited, especially for ordinary and greasy merinos and crossbreds. Greasy lambs, 10jd; fleece, 9d ; scoured, up to Is 2d. Melboukne, December 13.
