Potatoes —Derwents, £slos to £6 ; new kidneys, 2d per lb (with downward tendency.) Chaff—Prime quality, £3 12a Od ■ good to medium, £3, fis to £3. Salt Butter —7d per lb, prime quality, packages Is each. Cheese —Prime factory, 4fd; loaf, 5d ; Akaroa, 4|d to 4jd. G rass Seeds—Ryegrass, 2s (id to 3s ; machined from 3s 9d to 4s Gd ; cocksfoot, 3£d to sd.

Rough fat—best clean mutton caul, 14s to 14s 6d; medium to good, 12s 6d to 13s 6d ; inferior, 11a to 12s per cwt. DUNEDIN STOCK MAEKETS. At the Burnside Market on Wednesday the following business was transacted : Fat Cattle —Only 74 were penned, mostly medium to good quality, with a few heavy weights. Competition was brisk throughout, and prices ruled higher than those of last week. Beat bullocks brought £lO to £ll 2s 6d; medium to good, £8 15s to £9 17s 6d, light, £6 17s 6d to £8 12s 6d ; best cows, £8 10s to £9 17s 6d; a few extra prime up to £l2 7s 6d; medium to good, £6 5s to £8 7a 6'd ; light, £3 17s 6d to £6. Fat Sheep—ls 36 penned, all crossbreds, and of good to prime quality, and mostly shorn. Bidding was brisk, and although last week’s prices were not maintained, all lots were disposed of at good prices. Best crossbred wethers (in wool) brought 17s 6d to 20s 6d ; medium, 15s 6d to 17s 3d ; best crassbred ewes (in wool), 17sto 18s 6d; medium, 14s 6d to 16s to 16s 3d ; a few extra prime shorn sheep up to 18s; medium wethers (shorn), 12a 9d to 13s 9d; best shorn ewes, 14s to 15s 9d ; medium, 11s 6d to 12s 9d Fat Lambs —492 of all qualities penned, and these were fairly well competed for. Best brought 8a 6d to 10s 6d; others, 6s to 7s 9d. Pigs—so were penned, mostly suckers and slips. A moderate demand was experienced. Suckers brought 10s 6d to 14s; slips, 10s to 18s ; porkers, 22s 6d to 31s ; baconers, up to 355. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, December 6. Wheat, chick, 3s 3d to 3s 4d ; milling, nominal; old, 3s 6d to 3s 7d; new, 3s 3d. Flour, roller-made, £9. Oats, quiet, prime feeding, 2s Bjd. Maize, firm, prime, 3s 7d. Barley, English, 3s. Bran, 7£d; pollard, BJd to 9d. Peas, Prussian blue, 4s 9d to 4s lOd. Potatoes, local grown, £3 to £4 ss. Onions, £ll to £i2. Butter, dairy-made, 6d to 8d ; factorymade, Bd. Cheese, prime, 4d to 4£d. Bacon, 6d to 6£d; hams, New Zealand, Is Ojd. Funded stock is still selling well, and over £40,000 in gold was received last month. Dec 7.

There has been a large business doing in wool this week, and rates are well supported. Competition is keen and lively; greasy crossbred is selling at 6jd to lOd per lb; scoured fleeces, 10jd to Is 5Jd. The Bank Bill has passed the Legislative Council. Melbourne, December 6. In new wheat there is a fair business being done at 2s 9d. Oats, Algerian, Is 9d to Is lOd ; stout white, 2s Id to 2s 2d.

MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL. London, December 5. The Committee of the new Oriental Ba"k report a deficiency of nearly a million and a half. They fear that the creditors will only receive a further dividend of 6s in the £. Dec. 7. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United .Kingdom is 2,936,000 quarters, and for the Continent 1,196,000 quarters. At the wool sales prices occasionally tend in buyers’ favor. The American visible supply of wheat is 9,600,000 bushels. At the wool auctions competition is brisk aud prices are firm. The debentures of the Queensland Investment Land and Mortgage Company fell £l2 10s and are now quoted at £65, Mr R. B. Bennett, Christchurch agent of Henry S, Fitter and Sons, colonial meat salesmen, London, received the following cablegram from the London office, dated sth December:— Best Canterbury mutton, 4d to 4£d ; best Wellington mutton, 3|d to 4d ; Australian sheep, ojd; Australian beef (hinds), 314 to 3id; Australian beef (fores), 2)d to 2f d. Prices are firmer and prospects are encouraging.
