TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
The regular monthly meeting of the above was held last night. Present— Messrs Blyth (chairman), Miles, Storey, Coira, and Mason. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence read as follows : From Mr H. H. Pitman, relative to his property at Temuka, about which complaints had been made. The property had bean sold on terms. From the Geraldine County Council, notifying that the board’s contribution to Hospital and Charitable Aid amounted ta £8 10s 2d, and requesting payment of same. From the Treasury, Wellington notify ing that the sum of 17s 6d had been paiu to the credit of the board in respect ot fines received for dog registration prosecutions. THE BRICK HOUSE. The chairman stated that he had taken legal advice as to the board’s position with regard to the brick house owned by Mr Pitman, which it was decided ought to be pulled down. The advice was to the effect that the board had power to order the removal of the building under section 303 of the Municipal Corporation Act. Further consideration of the matter was held over until next meeting. THE ASPHALT CONTRACT. The chairman drew attention to the fact that at last meeting no arrangement was made with regard to the appointment of a clerk of works. He had instructed the overseer to look after the work in the meantime. He suggested that the overseer be formally appointed clerk of works and remunerated.—On the motion of Mr Miles, it was resolved that the overseer be paid £5 for services as clerk of works. QUEENSLAND RELIEF FOND. The chairman stated that he had received several copies of the official receipts in connection with the Queensland Relief Fund. From this it appeared that New Zealand had given £18,445 5s 4d, the largest amount contributed by any country except Queensland itself, where about £19,000 had been collected, The total amount received was £74,675 5s 4d. MISCELLANEOUS. On the motion of Mr Storey, it was resolved to protect the water channel at the junction of Wilmhurst road and Birkett street where, pending alterations of the level of the footpaths, the channel is exceptionally deep. Mr Storey also drew attention to the necessity for crossings over the channelling at several street junctions. # No resolution was made thereon. overseer’s report.
The overseer reported that the wet weather had somewhat interfered with the asphalt contract. However, one section had been finished, with the exception of the top dressing. Considerable 4aipage had beet) dopp by the trespass of pows, and also by larrikins. Fqr the past three days, howeyer, the overseer explained he had not observed any cows at large early in the morning. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £62 IGs fid, including progress payment, were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
