The weather was fine on Wednesday morning for the opening day of the Dunedin Spring Meeting, and the attendance was fair. The course was in good order. The amount put through the totalisator was £4318. Results :

Otago Cup, of 500 sovs Prime Warden, Bst 111 b, 1; Skirmisher, Bst 31b, 2 ; Liberator, Bst 71b, 3. Prime Warden was at once rushed to the front, and, keeping his place, was never headed, though it was a great race home between the placed horses. Melinite finished fourth, Raugipuhi fifth.
