CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKET.

At the Addington Yards on Wednesday last week’s rates in all classes were barely maintained. Fat Cattle—ln fat cattle best bullocks fetched £8 10s to £9 15s, heifers £7 to £B, lighter weights in proportion, equal to about 25s per lOOlb. Store Cattle—ln store cattle yearlings brought 20s to 345, two-year-olds, 58s to 81s, a few forward steers £5 Is to £6 7s 6d, heifers to £5 7s 6d, dairy cows £6 to £8 12s 6d.

Fat Sheep—The entry of fat sheep was mostly crossbred ewes of various weights. Best lines of crossbred wethers brought 13s to 16s, secondary 11s to 12s 6d, best crossbred ewes 11s to 13s 6d, secondary 9s to 10s 6d, merino wethers up to 9s 3d, and in wool up to 13s 9d, a few pens of prize Southdowns 18s 6d to 19s 6d. Fat Lambs—Prime 9s to 11s, and up to 12s for very ptime, secondary 7s 9d to 9s. Store Sheep—ln store sheep the rates were—Merino ewes with lambs Gs lOd to 9s 6d, crossbred hoggets 8s 6d to 10s 9d, small 6s, crossbred four-tooth wethers 12s. Pigs sold at late rates.

DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday : Wheat —Prime milling, 2s 9dto 2slod ; medium quality, 2s 7d to 2s Bd. Fowls’ wheat, 2a 4d to 2s 7d. Demand quiet; prices low. Oats—A small inquiry for consumption ; very little doing in shipping. Prioio feed and milling, Is lid ; other qualitk-fc, Is lOd to Is lO^d. Potatoes—Dements, £slos to £6 ; new kidneys, 2d (with downward tendency) per lb. Chaff —Prime quality, £3 12s Gd to £3 15s $ £ood to medium, £3 5s to £3. Salt Rutter —Prime quality, at 7d per lb, packages Is each. Cheese—Prime factory d; loaf, 5d ; Akaroa, 4Jd to 4fd. Grass Seeds —Ryegrass, 2s Gd to vR; machined from 3s 9d to 4s Gd ; cocksfoot, 3£d tosd.

Sheepskins —On Tuesday country dry crossbreds, inferior to medium, brought Is Gd to 2s 9d ; do merino, Is 5d to 2s ■; medimn to full-woolied crossbred', 2s lid to 4a 3d ; best, 4s Gd to 5s 3d; extra heavy, 5a Gd toGs; full-woolled merinos—good, 2s 2d to 3s 3d; beat, 3s 4d to 4s 3d; butchers’ green crossbreds--best, 5s 3d to os Gd ; medium to good, 4a Gd to 5s Jd ; small and light, 3s 4d to 4a sd; green merinos, 2s 9d to 3a 3d ; do pelta, 5d to la Id; do lambskins, 8d to Is 2d; dry pelts 2d to la 3d. Hides—A steady business £a being done in these. Heavy aorta command most attention, being short of requirements, while light sorts are in over-supply. Quotations ; For light to medium, Id to 2d ; extra heavy, 2£d to 3d per lb. Tallow—Late quotations are fairly well maintained—say ; For best rendered

mutton, fit for export, 21s 6d to 22s 6d ; medium to good, 18s 6d to 20s 6d; inferior to medium, 14s to 17s 6d; rough fat—best mutton caul, 14s to 14s fid; medium to good, 12s 6d to 13s 9d; inferior, 11s to 12s 3d per cwt. DUNEDIN^TOCKMARKETS. At the Burnside Market on Wednesday the following business was transacted : Fat Cattle—l2o head yarded—mostly light weights and medium quality. Buyers were few, but prices were well maintained. Bullocks sold at £6 15s to £1115s; cows, sold at £4 17s 6d to £9 10s. Fat hheep—A small supply, 710 being penned, about half in wool. Keen competition helped to harden values, which rose Is to 2a over last week. Crossbreds in wool sold at 17s to 23s 6d, do shorn at 12s fid to 16s fid.

Fat Lambs—The supply (641) following last week’s glutted market proved too many for requirements; iu consequence nothing but best sorts were saleable, and in most cases at a reduction; indifferent quality being very much neglected. ,■ Best aold at 8s to 11s 9d; others, 4s 6d to 7s 9d. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, November 29. Wheat, chick, 3s 3d to 3s 4d ; milling, 3s 6d to 3s 7d. Flour, roller-made, £9. Oats, quiet, prime feeding, 2s B£d ; heavy samples, 2s 9d. Maize, prime, 3s 7d. Barley, Cape, 3s. Bran, 7Jd; pollard, 9d. Potatoes, local grown, £4los to £5. Onions, Victorian, £ll 10s to £l2 ss. Butter, dairy-made, 6d to 8d ; factorymade, Bd. Cheese, loaf, 4£d. Bacon, best, 6d to 6Ad. Nov. 30. The wool market is buoyant in tone, and late rates are firmly supported. Greasy crossbreds, 6£d to lOd; scoured fleeces, 10£d to Is s|d. Mr Henry J. Gerritsen, a member of the firm of Oetzes and Gerritsen, produce merchants, of Loudon, is visiting Sydney. In the course of an interview he said that his Arm had had large transactions with Australia and New Zealand, but the firm had cut its connection with New Zealand, owing to farmers selling large quantities of cheese to buyers whose object was to make something on the sale to London merchants. He said that his visit was chiefly in connection with the butter trade. Melbourne, November 29. Wheat, prime, 2s JOjd. Oats, Tartarian, 2s o£d ; stout, 2s 2d. Maize, 2s lid, Barley, Cape, 2s Id ; thin English, 3s 6d. Nov. 30. At the wool sales competiou is brisk, especially for light greasy merino and good scoured. The market is firm at late rates. Adelaide, November 29, Wheat, 2s 9d. Flour, roller-made, £7 10s, Bran, 7£d to 8d; Pollard, Bd. MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL. London, November 28. At the wool sales there was a crowded attendance of foreigners. 75,000 bales were offered. Bidding was spirited among the foreigners, but the Home buyers were quiet. Prices are about on a par with the September closing rates, but faulty sorts are oCd° sioriall y weaker. Nov. 29. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 3,020,000 quarters, and for the Continent 1,022,000. At the wool sales crossbreds are slightly dearer. The French are buying eagerly. The visible supply of wheat for the United Kingdom is 95,700,000 bushels. The cargo ex Vallejo, from Timaru, sold at 255.

Good competition is maintained at the wool sales, and prices are unchanged. For Australian wool they range from 7£d to 9£d. Washington, Nov. 28.

The Tariff Bill has increased the majority of the Democratic party in the Committee of Ways and Means of the House. The measure is of a radical character, and repeals the reciprocal treaties with South America. Where possible it proposes to adopt ad valorem duties and freedom of taxation on raw material, and provides for the extension of the free list, including coal, flax, and eggs, The duty will be removed from wool in March next, and a reduction be made in the duty on woollen goods in July. The Bill implies that the loss to the revenue will amount to 50,000,000 dollars annually. Nov. 29. Mr Carnegie, referring to the new tariff, said that it had been originated by desperate men who would find it impossible to pass it. The Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated yesterday We quote to-day’s value prime North Canterbury mutton 4jd per lb. The wool market is steady; fair business is doing at former prices.”
