AFFAIRS AT THE CAPE.
London, Nov 23. Reports have been received that, Lobengula is retreating to the forest country, and that his warriors are deserting him. Mr Forbes is in pursuit with his column. Lord Ripon has received no infomation as to the reported defeat of Dr Jameson, and disbelieves it. Nov. 24. A report is circulated by Dalziel’s Agency that Lobeugula is captured, but no confirmation has been received. Capetown, Nov. 24. Dr Jameson reports that the Matabeles are completely broken up, and that Iviug Lobeugula with a few followers is endeavouring to escape northwards across the Zambesi, but his capture is regarded as certain. Dr Jameson declares that Major Adams’ column would have met with inevitable disaster had not the Company’s forces been sent to his assistance, hie hopes to bo able to disband his forces next week. Lie intends to disarm the Matabeles, and settle them in the north and north-west, giving the head men sufficient cattle for subsistence. It is unknown whether Dr Jameson is acting apart from Sir H. Loch.
