TIMARU MARKETS. The Canterbury Farmers’ Association, Limited, report as follows for the week ending Friday, November 24th, 1893 : Wheat continues without any improvement, and is exceedingly disappointing to holders. A few sales are taking place locally, and only a sluggish feeling is exhibited. Whole fowl wheat continues very firm. Velvet, 2s 6d to 2s 7d; tuscan, 2s 5d to 2s 6d; red chaff, 2s 4d to 2s 5d ; fowl wheat (whole), 2s 3d to 2s 3Jd ; seconds, Is lOd to 2s, on trucks Timaru. Oats—Feed lines hold their own in supplying the demand for consumption. Milling, 2s l£d to 2s 2£d ; feed, 2s to 2s Id; dauish, 2s Id to 2s 2d, f.o.b.
AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. The Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Limited (per Mr J. Muudell, auctioneer), report on the horse market at Tattersall’s on Saturday as follows : A large attendance of buyers and others interested in horse flesh were present during the sale, and we have to report a strong demand for young sound horses, showing weight and quality. Cur entry comprised 33 head of all classes, a Lu ge proportion of which found buyers at the following prices, viz. : —Draughts, young and sound, with trial, £l9, £2l, to £24 ; do aged and inferior sorts, £9 to £il; light harness sorts, £l2 10s to £l4 10s ; hackneys, £6, £9, to £l2 10s.
CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALE. The first wool sale of the season at Christchurch commenced on Friday afternoon and continued that night. For strong lustrous wools and light sound merinos competition was exceptionally keen. There was a good attendance of buyers, including some who had not previously operated at local sales. B alfbred sold up to 9d, crossbred to Bfd, and merinos to 6Jd. Generally speaking the wools this year are less earthy than last year’s clip, but while sou id in staple and well grown are mostly heavy with grease, an'd in some instances show signs of shearing having been proceeded with when the sheep were wet.
London, November 23. Fresh arrivals of wool up todatenumoer 154,400 bales, of which 15,000 bales have been sent forward direct tj manufacturing districts. The total quantity available for the ensuing series is 173,000 bales. Jr. is expected prices will be firm, and that River Plate tops will be a half penny dearer. New- Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 106 ; 3J per cent, do, 97. Frozen mutton, first quality, 3Jd per lb; second quality, 3f d per lb. Lamb, first quality, 4d per lb. The New Zealand hemp market is dull. Twenty-two bales of fair quality from Wellington sold at £lB 10s per ton. Butter, Danish, 130s,per cwt; Austr lian and .New Zealand 124 s to 1255. New Zealand long-berried wheat, ex warehouse, weaker, at 29s 3d; South Australian wheat ox warehouse, is also weaker at 30a ; Victorian, ditto. Mr Perceval has appointed an expert inspector of New Zealand butter and dairy produce in London. Nov. 24. Owing to the closing of two refineries at Greenock, the supp'y of sugar is curtailed by 2000 tons per week. Nov. 25. The creditors’ committee of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company are not yet prepared wiih a scheme for reconstruction, and the statutory meeting has again been postponed. The St. Petersburg correspondent of the Dai ! y News states that the Russian Government intend to issue a loan in Paris in February, and should there be a probability of failure the Czarewitch will visit Paris to ensure its success. At a special meeting of the committee appointed to regulate the price of colonial butter, the consignments ex Austral and Doric Were fixed ftt 120 s per cwt. SvDJiTEV, Nov. 25. The experiment of sending mandarin oranges and lemons to London packed in ti-tree bark has resulted successfully. A very small percentage of the fruit was damaged. New York, Nov. 25. The New York Herald says that the new tariff will exempt wool, hemp, copper, and block-tin.
