The .statement of accounts in connection with Chicago Exhibition shows a debit balance of 2,500,000 dollars. The stock-holders will probably be reimbursed half the capital invested. Nov. 4, The Sheriff of Cook's County has seized the New South Wales mineral exhibit, as security for 50,000 dollars, the amount of damages sought in the actijn entered by the proprietor of Sells' circus against the New .South Wales Government for quarantining horses belonging to the circus on arrival in the colony. Suez,, Nov. 4. A steamer, which caught fire while passing through the canal, has blocked the passage.

Melbourne, Nov. 3. The New Zealand athletic team and a number of New South Wales representatives have arrived to take part in the Championship Athletic Meeting next week. The gathering promises to be the greatest success. of its kind yet held. The remainder of the. competitors arrays on Saturday and Monday, and the meeting begins on Thursday. Nov. 4. Lord Glasgow, Governor of New Zealand, has had a lengthy interview with the Minister of Railways on the subject of railway management. Sydney, Nov. 4. Major-General Huttou has represented to the Government that the efficiency of the forces would be impaired if the reductions in the estimates were insisted upon, but he recognised the right of the Government to say how much they could afford to spend.
