CRICKET.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir—lii your report of last Thursday's cricket match you say with regard to Postlothwaite : " The bowler appealed instantly, and aa the umpire gave the word 'out' the fieldsman dropped the ball. Postlethwaite left the crease without appealing to the other umpire, which he should have done, and the decision would have been reversed." This is truly beautiful. Your correspondent should know that cricket is governed by rules now existing, and not attempt to lay down laws of his own manufacture. Postlethwaite knows the laws of the game too v well and is too much of a sportsman to attempt to question an umpire's decision For the benefit of your correspondent ! will quote the rule relating to umpire... " The umpires are sole judges of fair ana unfair play, and all disputes shall be determined by them, each at his own wicket, but in case of a catch which the umpire at the wicket bowled from cannot see sufficiently to decide upon, he may apply to the other umpire, whose decision Bhail be final." The italics are mine. Your correspondent will now perhaps see that it was not Postlethwaite's place to appeal. Apologising for taking up so much of your space, and i hanking you in anticipation, I am, etc., B. R. Maodonald Geraldinej Nov. 6.
