S.C. BOARD OF EDUCATION.

The monthly meeting of the South Canterbury Board of Education was held on Thursday. Present—Mr S. W. Goldsmith (chairman), Rev. Mr White, Messrs Pearpoint, Graham, Gray, and Howell. The suggestions contained in the chairman’s statement were approved of, BUILDINGS, A memo, from the Department notified that the board’s share of the building grant this year was £1750. On the motion of Mr Pearpoint, seconded by Mr Howell, the present Building Committee (the chairman, Messrs Gray and Jackson) were reappointed. architect's report, • The architect reported that the repairs to the school and the erection of the master’s house at Scotsbum have been completed as per agreement. INCIDENTALS. Mr J. Talbot, convenor of the committee to consider the request of the Timaru School Committee for an increase of incidentals, reported that the committee having reviewed the existing scale recommended as follows:—“ That the present scale of incidental allowances be Amended in the direction of allowing schools of 300 and upwards a capitation of 3s per head on the average attendance for incidental expenses, such alteration to take effect from the Ist January,lß94.” —Mr Pearpoint moved, and Mr Howell seconded, that the report be confirmed.— The motion was agreed to, TENDERS. Painting at Burke’s Pass—T. Sullivan £3B (accepted), S. Johnson £4O, J. Cooper £3B 10s, E, Fodeu £4l. The architect’s estimate was £4O, committees’ correspondence. Applications from Rangitata Station Pleasant Point, and Rangtata Island, asking for grants for buildings etc., were referred to the building committee. The explanation of the chairman of the Pleasant Point school committee bearing on pupil teacher’s appointment was directed to be sent to the committee. The same committee now recommended Miss Smith as pupil teacher and the recommendation was approved. The explanations forwarded by the Milford School Committee and Pairlie Creek School Committee, respecting the bad reports on the schools, were accepted as satisfactory. The recommendation by the Orari South commitee that Miss Elizabeth Campbell be appointed a teacher was confirmed. RESIGNATION. Mr George H. Rhodes forwarded • his resignation as a member of the board. On the motion of Mr Howell the resignation was accepted with regret. The office will take steps to fill the vacancy. The Board then rose.
