RENTS IN IRELAND.
TO THE EDITOR. Si B) —Can you oblige by answering the following question :—" Does the law as it stands at present in Ireland provide for a tenant of land getting a reduction of rent if over-rented, and compel the landowner to accept reduction I" Further, "If the law so provides, does it apply to all lauds in Ireland, or to ouly a portion of that country V —l am, etc., Rack-Rented.
[Any tenant farmer in Ireland can appeal to the Land Court to review the rent exacted from him by the landlord. If iu the opinion of the Laud Court tha rent is excessive, it is reduced to what the Court thinks a fair rent. On the other hand, it the Court thinks the rent too low it may also increase it on the petition of the landlord. This applies to all Ireland. This law, however, is only a few years iu existence. Previously the landlord rack-rented and charged what fte, could get. —Ed.J
