ij TIMARU AND ASHBUBTON SHOWS.—In our advertising columns will be found the train arrangements for the Timaru and Ashburton Shows. Tidmuka Rifles— On Thursday last the above company mustered for volley and independent firing under Colonel Bailey and Serjeant Major Jones. There were on parade only 21 rank and file. The firing was fairly good, the average for firing being 14 and for independent 14.65. It is a pity that there was not a larger muster as the number present does not admit of the corps taking a prize. On Wednesday those selected to fire against the Waimate Rifleß, are requested to be prepared for a start at 5 a.m., as the train leaves Timaru shortly after seven, and there are several arrangements yet to be made. Temuka Floral Society. The attention of our readers is again drawn to the above society, whose objects are worthy of all support. Interest has again revived in it by the success that the subcommittee have met with in their canvass for special prizes, but the membership roll is still somewhat deficient. The committee intend to spare no trouble in making the show a success in every way. The exhibits open to amateurs should give every cottage gardener a chance of competing successfully, and a wide field is opened in class D to children, amateur artists, lovers of needlework, and housewives. Ashwick Flat Water Supply.—We note by an advertisement in another column that the Mackenzie County Conncil have arranged with Mr Gaze, of Temuka, to take charge of of the plans and specifications of an extensive work in the matter of water supply for Ashwick Flat nutil Oct 27th. This should give local contractors a good chance of making their estimates at reduced expense. The principal water race contracts in the Geraldine county have been carried out by contractors from this, district, and their experience in this respect should now prove of value to themselves g and to the Mackenzie Council. The plans and specifications give every detail, and we note with pleasure that difficulties in the matter of supply of material have been removed, so that the principal items to be dealt with are those of labour. This opens a wide field for cooperative work. SYNOPSIS OF ADVERTISEMENTS. Guinness & LeCren —Entries Geraldine Sale. C.F.C. Association Entries Geraldine Sale. R. M.
