AUCTIONEERS' REPORT.
The Canterbury Farmers' Co-operative Association, Limited (per Mr J. Mundell, auctioneer), report on the horse market at Tattersall's on Saturday as follows : The attendance was good throughout the sale, but the demand for farm horses has fallen off considerably, the result being that prices are in favor of buyers. The entry comprised 19 horses, draught and hackneys The following prices were realised by us under the hammer: Draughts, young and sound, £l6 10s, £lB to £l9 ; do light and aged, £7 5s to £lO ; light harness sorts, £ll 5s £l3 10s to £l6; hackneys, £9 to £ll 53.
TIMARU MARKETS. The Canterbury Farmers' Association, Limited, report as follows for the week endiug Friday, October 20th, 1893 : Wheat—The market is unusually quiet, and holders are waiting patiently for au improvement in the Home market. Velvet, 2s 6d to 2s 7d; tuscan, 2s 5d to 2s 6d ; red chaff, 2s 4d to 2s 4£d, on trucks Timaru. Oats—Milling, 2s to 2s Id ; short feed, la lid; Danish, Is 9d to Is lid, f.o.b.
MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL. London, October 20. It is stated that £IOO,OOO has been withdrawn from the Bank of England for Sydney, and that more will possibly follow. The Daily News correspondent says that if the American Senate does not repeal the Sherman Act the President will suspend its operations in order to avert a national crisis. Mr Carlisle, the treasurer, estimates that there will be a deficit this year of 50,000,000 dollars. J. W. Chappell, of London, builder, is a bankrupt. His liabilities amount to £250,000.
For tho West Australian loan of £500,000 with a minimum of 97£, the sum of £686,000 has been subscribed at au average of £9B os 2d. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 104 J, ex interest; 3i per cent, do 96
New Zealand long-berried wheat, ex warehouse, 295; market restricted. Australian wheat, ex warehouse, 30s, quiet; Victorian do, 29s 6J, quiet. A cargo of Victorian wheat sold at 28s l£d. Mutton, first quality, 3§d; second quality, 3 7-16 d ; lamb, first quality, 3|d. The hemp market is depressed, and no New Zealand shipments were offered this week. Melbourne, Oct. 20.

Compared with the' openiug day, the tone of the market is exceedingly firm. Sydney, October 20. The Premier state" that the proclamation under the Bank Issue Act having fulfilled its duty, and as no bankers have asked for its extension, the Government intend to let the Act lapse and return to specie payment within the next month. The total amount of Treasury notes issued during the crisis is £358,000, of which the amount received for repayment
is £1)34,000. Oct. 21. There has been bat little business transacted in wool duriug the week, owing to the recent deadlock. Current prices are : —Greasy crossbr« d, 6.|d to 9d ; scoured, 10£d to Is sd, according to quality. Mr Weddel, of Weddel & Co , the well known salesmen, lias shipped 150 tons of Queensland beef to Hamburg and 50 tons to Cologne. The steamers were specially insulated. The residents of Hamburg are much pleased with the quality and condition, of the meat.
