CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKET. At the Addington Yards on Wednesday business in most departments was fairly good. Store Sheep—There was a medium entry of stores. The quality was not of the best, and though the greater part ( changed hands, the demand was Only fair. | Crossbred ewes with lambs brought 14s : to 18s 3d, hoggets 10s to 12s 6d, shorn ; wethers 8s 4d, merino ewes 5s lid. Fat Sheep—Only about 1500 fat sheep i were yarded. The entry included several; pens of shorn wethers. The quality all; round was fair. Short supply caused at rise of from Is to 2s per head, and all lots were cleared by the local trade. The i following are the quotations :—Crossbred; wethers 14s 3d to 20s lOd, ewes 13s 3d to ■ 19s 3d, maiden ewes 14s 5d to 245, mixed sexes 15s to 21s lOd, mixed wethers and maiden ewes 16s 4d to 17s 6d, hoggets 12s 2d to 15s 9d, shorn wethers 15s 3d toi 17s, halfbred wethers Iss to 16s 6d, ewes 15s 9d t > 17s 6d, mixed wethers and maiden ewes 16s to 18s, merino wethers 1 14s to 17s Id, ewes 9s to 10s. Fat Lambs—There was a largo entry of fat lambs, and prices were well maintained. Fat Cattle—l 47 head of fat cattle were yarded. The quality showed a decided improvement. Auotl’er lino of North Island bullocks, finished ofl'iu Canterbury, came forward and sold at from £l2 10s to £l4 10s per head. Steers brought from £7 12s 6d to £lO 15s, heifers from £6 17s 6d to £7 10s, and cows from £5 5s to £9 15s. Beef was scarcely as high as it was last week. Store Cattle—A medium entry of stores, including some nice young cattle, met with a rather dull market. Pigs—There was a fair entry of pigs, but except for young stores business was much easier than of late.
DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday : Wheat—Prime quality saleable at 2s 9d to 3s; medium, 2s 4d to 2s Bd. Fowls’ wheat, good whole grain, 2s 7d to 2s 8d —in good demand. Millers are nut anxious to operate, as little or no liour is selling. Prices are keeping low. Barley Chevalier, 3s 9d to 4s; Cape, 2s 9d for malting qualities. Oats—Good milling and prime feed, 2s Id ; long tartarians for seed: bright, 2s 3d to 2s 4d ; danish, 2s, Hops —Is f.0.b., Nelson. Potatoes —Prices range from £4los to £5 2s 6d. Nev potatoes 3d per lb. Pigs Have inquiry, 3£d to 4d for suitable sizes and quality. Bacon, 6|d; haras, B|d. Chaff has demand, prime £3 10s to £3 15s; good, 40s to 555. Salt Butter—Demand quiet, 6§d to 7d, packages extra ; prime quality only wanted.. Cheese—ln better demand, factory, 4-Jd to sd. Honey—From to 4|d. Roller flour, £7 10s ; stone flour, £6 ss. Bran—£2 6s. Pollard, £3. O.Vmeal —£10 10s, Pearl barley, £2O. Grass Seeds—Ryegrass, 2s Od to Ss 5 jnachined from 3s 9d to 4s 6d (demand jurying); cocksfoot, 3sd to sd. Oflio/W?—£9
Sheepskins —At awffaff on Tuesday there was not aiiy quotable Hiapge in prices, which were in some instances mor** than fully maintained. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS,
At the Burnside Market ou Wednesday the following business was transacted ; Fat Cattle—llo head yarded. Hales opened on a par with last week and re-
jnahied very close right to the end of the sale. ( Best bullocks brought from £lolos to £l3 6s ; best cows, £7 10s to £9 16s. Prime quality beef may be quoted at 27s 6d to 30s per 1001 b. Fat Sheep—Only 841 penned, chiefly crossbred wethers from fair to good quality. Prices hardened considerably, and may be quoted Is per head higher than last week. Best crossbred withers, 17s to 19s 9d ; ordinary- do, 14s to 15s 6d ; a few extra heavy ewes to 19s 9d. Lambs—Eight-eight lambs penned, all nice quality, but some of them too light. They were all sold at 7s 9d to 12s. Store Cattle—These are in great demand, as the late warm raius are bringing on the grass very fast. Store Sheep—As usual at this time of the year there is not much business being done in these—nor is there likely to be till after shearing. Pigs—l6o penned. Prices on a par with last week, with the exception of baconers, which, owing to the warm weather, may be quoted Id per lb lower. Suckers brought 12s 6d to 16s 6d, slips 17s 6d to 19s, stores 20a to 255, porkers 26s to 295, baconers 30s to 33s—a few extra heavy 475.

Sydney, October 18. Wheat, chick, 3s 3d to 3s 4d; milling, nominally, 3s 7d. Flour, stone-made, £8 5s to £8 10s; roller-made, up to £9. Oats, quiet, medium feed, 2s 7d to 2s Bd. Maize, 3s 7d. Barley, Cape, 2s lid. Bran, 7£d; pollard, 7jd. Peas, Prussian Blue, 4s 5d to 4s 6d. Potatoes, blew Zealand, (stale), £5 15s, (fresh) ex Wakatipu, £6 ; Circular Head, £5 15s. Onions, Victorian, £7 5s to £7 10s. Butter, dairy-made, 6d to 7d ; factorymade, Bd. Cheese, prime, 4jd. Bacon, 5d to 6Jd. Melbourne, October 18. The wheat market is easier. The latest quotation is 2s ll£d. Flour,stone-made, £6 10s to £6 16s 6d ; roller-made, £7 ss. Oats, Algerian, Is lid ; stout white, 2s 2^d. Maize, 2s lOd. Barley, Cape, 2s 2£d; malting, 5s 3d to os sd. Potatoes, £B, but sellers are asking £8 5s to £8 10s. Onions, £7. The wool sales opened to-day. There whs a good attendance, and competition was brisk at last season’s rates. Adelaide, October 18. Wheat is offering freely at 3s, without buyers. Flour, £7 10s. Bran, 7ld; Pollard, 7ld.
MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL.
London, October 18. At a meeting of Dalgety and Company’s shareholders Mr P. G. Glynn, deputychairman, said that ample provision had been made for all contingencies. The time was approaching when the shareholders might look for an increased dividend The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,852,000 quarters, and for the Continent 912,000 quarters. The cargo of frozen meat ex Fifeshire fr un New Zealaud.has arrived in excellent condition. Victorian dairy butter is quoted at 104 s to 110 s per ewt., factory-made from 114 s to 116 s. The American visible wheat supply is estimated at 77,000,000 bushels. October 19. Dalgety and Go’s. 4J per cent, debentures rose 4 per cent, in consequence of the chairman’s statement.
