THE RUSSIAN FIEET AT TOULON
Paris, Oct. 14. The Russian warships 7«™ rece j^ d with unexampled enthusiasm on l "? , arrival at Toulon. One hundred thousand flags and miles of scarlet were displayed. A succession of fetes was held, and the officers were almost mobbed by the crowd in their enthusiasm. Admiral Avelon, who is in command of the Russian fleet, in reply to the welcome accorded the fleet in i oulon, said that the entire Russian people would be grateful for the enthusiasm displayed. There were frantic shouts of " Vive Russia." The Russian Admiral was deeply moved, and cried "Vive France." The bands played the Russian Hymn. The Russian fleet were flying the French colours. At the banquet given in honour of the visit, Admiral Rieuner, Minister of Marine, said that the Czar's name in the eyes of the world was a-symbol, of peace, and he h*ped that fraternity of arms would ever exist.
