THE SHERMAN SILVER ACT.
Washington, Oct. 12,
The stonewall in the Senate over the Sherman Act Repeal Bill continues. Senators opposed to the measure are now provided with beds in the Chamber. There are 48 Senators in favour of repealing the Sherman Act and 37 against. The former are trying a continuous sitting in order to break down the stonewall.
October 14,
The continuous sitting in the Senate has begun. Senator Allen spoke for fifteen hours against the Sherman Act Repeal Bill. The silver men in the Senate rejected a proposal to have adjournments for meals and meals.
The Senate has adjourned owing to there being no quorum. Supporters of Mr Voorhee's bill for increasing the circulation of the national bank to the full amount of funds of depositors are much incensed at the result. The galleries were filled with a brilliant assemblage, who laughed heartily at the position. Owing to the Chairman of Committees having depended on a sense of right and decency to maintain a quorum, the compulsory attendance of the supporters of the Sherman Repeal Bill had not been provided for. Intense indignation is universal throughout the United States at the obstruction offered to the repeal of the Sherman Silver Act.
