AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above was held last night. Present—Messrs E. Brown (chairman), E. Carr, and A. Frew. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows ; From the Geraldine County CoUP'ofl advising the board that the second m oiety of contribution to the ,p ' imara Harbor Board, amounting to £8 10s, was payable on Oct, Ist, and asking that the same be remitted at once, free of exchange. From the Land Board,, under date Sept, 16th, acknowledging receipt; of particulars relative to the letting of the Garden Reserves. The same had been laid before the Land Board, and that body resolved to take no action in the matter, as two orders in council published in the N.Z. Gazette of the 31st ult., No. 66, pages 1296 and 1297,'brought the Reserves under the operation of the Public Domains Act, 1881. Subject to the provisions of thao Act, therefore, the control of the lands was now vested in the Town Board.
From the same, under date Sept. 17th, stating that th 9 Chief Surveyor would be pleased if the board would consult with Mr U'Callaghan, the Grown Lands Ranger, regarding proposals for expending the amounts accrued in respect of "thirds." He, having a thorough knowledge of the settlers road requirements, would be able to assist in making fair and satisfactory proposals that would be acceptable both to the Laud Board and settlers —Clerk had arranged for a conference with ranger. From the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, showing recipients of charitale aid in th Q town district. The return showed one persou receiving cash value of food, 22s 6d per month, and another a widow, 16s 10£d per month. The board some of the suggestions very good. From Mr W. R. Keay, applying to have his name removed from the roll in respect of sections 233 aud 234, and that of Mrs Harriet Metson substituted.—Agreed to. OVEKSEEUS REPOKT. The overseer reported that two men had been employed for a few days at odd jobs authorised at last meeting. There were several places where shingle was required. Studholme street was in » bad state, but to improve it would require proper formation. It was arranged that the members inspect the street prior to next meeting, and also join the overseer if possible in conference with the Crown Ranger. The work in village settlement to be deferred until then. Mr Fivw drew attention to ihe condition of Hornbrook street, and the overseer was ordered to report. hi accordance with a recommendation from Mr Carr, tho overseer was authorised to report on watertables in Maud street near Messrs Moore's and Edgeler's, j and also as to the formation of footpath. I ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £l4 Gs were passed for payment. The board then sat as a Domnin Board. A report of the proceedings will appear in our next.
