THE Temuka Leader. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5, 1893. THE ELECTIONS.
An advertisement in another column intimates that the electoral rolls will close to-day. A supplementary roll will be made up, and people who have not yet registered their names will thus be afforded another opportunity of doing so, but we have to warn them that there is no time to be lost. By the Act a name should be fifteen days in the hands of the registrar before it can be placed on the roll, so as to give him time for making inquiries about it. Names sent in to-day may not, if the reg strar has any doubt about them, be eligible for being placed on the roll for the next fortnight. It is, therefore, absolutely necessary for people who desire to register their names to do so at once, as otherwise they may be too late. Forms and all information can be obtained from Mr Dyson or Mr E. C. Dann, Temuka, or Mr B. Robson, Geraldine. Persons desiring to be registered for either Raugitata or Pareora will be attended to at the Leader Office, Temuka, where their names will be witnessed and forwarded on to either registrar. Another thing we wish again to impress on electors is that if they allow their names to appear on two rolls, they will lose thur votes altogether. They will not be allowed to vote in either district, and will be liable to a fine of i. 5 besides. Electors ought, therefore, to see at once that their names are removed from the roll of the district iu which they do not intend to vote. For instance, supposing au elector knows that his name is on the Kangitata electoral roll, and he has ceased to live in that district, and is living, say, iu the Pareora district, he ought to write to the Registrar of Electors for Pareora as follows “I hereby claim to have my name inserted in the electoral roll for the Electoral District of Pareora. I do hereby declare as follows : I am the person whose name is inserted in the roll of the Electoral District of Kangitata, in respect of residence, and the signature appearing Ojt the foot hereof is my own proper signature. I have ceased to reside in the Electoral District of Kangitata, and I am now a buna fide resident iu the Electoral District of Pareora, and have resided there for one month. lam not registered in respect of any qualification in"the district for which 1 now claim, nor except as aforesaid in any other district iu the colony.” This ia the form given in the Acr, and it must bo signed with th« full name, and witnessed as a claim foxenrolment is. In the same way, xf the name is desired to be transferred to Timaru or to any other district, all that is xiecessary is to change the names of the Electoral Districts. VYe have again to remind people that they render themselves liable to a fine of £5 and the loss of their votes if they neglect to do this. This only refers to a residential qualification. Persons having property in two or more p!ootoial districts caxx select the district in which they desire to vote, bat he must not allow his name to appear on more than one roll, or elsi be will be liable to the pains and penalties above referred to. This is an important point, which electors ought to see to at once.
