TIMARU HORSE PARADE.
The annual parade of entire horses, held under the auspices of the Timaru A. and P. Association was held last Saturday, in Timaru. The weather was very fine, but the entry of horses was small, and the number of persons present was not so large as on previous occasions. The entry was as follows : Draught Horses. Mr E. T. Rhodes's Bonny Breast Knot, by Young Banker—Princess Royal. Mr W. McKibbin's Young Lome, by Lord Lome —Princess Royal. Mr J. Austin's Black Watch, by Lord Erskine—Blossom. Mr J. Struthers' Sir Wilfred, by Chancellor of Blackhall—dam by Ivanhoe. Mr G. Stumbles' Young Champion, by Lord Haddu —Duchess of Glasgow. Mr J. Gibson's Loch Gyle, by What's Wanted—Blossom. Mr J. Shaw's The Banker, by Sir Arthur Gordon—Lasa o'Gowrie. Thokouhbreds. Mr J. Henderson's ch h Tairora, by Tubal Cain—Ace of Hearts. Mr E. T. Rhodes' b h Morpheus, by St. George—Hammock. Mr E. Shaw's Lord John, by Berlin— Princess Maud. Mr J. Shaw's bay colt, by Berlin— Moana. Pony. Mr J. Gibson's Darkest Africa, by Major Atkinson—Phiz. There is scarcely one of these advertised to travel in this district and consequently we have no interest in them. Mr Rhodes' Bonny Breast Knot, was as usual in excellent condition, and so was Mr Austin's Black Watch. Mr Geo. Stumbles' Young Champion is also a fine horse. As regards thoroughbreds only two of them will travel this district, that is, Mr J. Henderson's Taiaroa. and Mr W. Deßenzy's Arbiter. Taiaroa is a famous horse, winner of a large number of races, and a very handsome animal. He comes of a splendid stock, having the blood of some of the best English and Australian racers in his veins. A reference to his cards will show that he has been a very successful performer on the turf, having won 12 races, came second in 14, and third in 11, against the best horses in New Zealand. He stands 16J hauds high, is a model symrnety aud beauty, and is altogether the finest thoroughbred that has ever travelled this district. None of the trotting andjeoaching stallions mentioned above are announced for this district. On the whole the parade was not so successful as might have been expected, a fact which was due to the inclemency of the weather of the previous day.
