GERALDINE SPRING MEETING. Stewards—A. M. Clark, T. Teschemaker, R. H. Pearpoint, W. Deßenzy, B. R. Macdonald, J. Mundell, R. Taylor, F. W. Worner, T. Markham, J. Farrell, A. White, and A. Brown. Judge— M. C. Studholme. Clerk of the Scales . —R. H. Pearpoint. Clerk of Course— A. L. Barker. Starter —H. Piper. Handicapper—G. Dowse. Treasurer— J. Farrell. Secretary—F. Wilson Smith. The gloriously fine weather on Thursday after the preceding wet weather was specially favorable for the Geraldine Spring Races, and as a sequence there was a very fair attendance at the meeting.*At mid-day the weather was very pleasant, but later on in the afternoon a cold stiff breeze sprung up, and things were disagreeable for a time. Towards evening, however, the wind fell, and the weather was again mild and summer-like. The stewards and othet officials and the club's hard-working secretary, Mr F. Wilson Smith, did their best to make the meeting a success, and everything went well, and the races, we might mention, were got off almost to the tick of the time. Mr Tombs (Temuka), provided a very decent luncheon, and the grand stand license booth held by Mr T. Reseigh, and the outside booth by Mr J. M. Keane, both did good business. Owing no doubt to the club's threat to put down M spieling " the meeting was a very orderly one. Speculation, however, on the totaliaator showed a falling off of £099 compared Tvith last year's first day meeting, and £799 from the 1891 meeting. Messrs Maaon & Roberts on Thursday put through £1079, and the dividends taken all round were good. During the day & meeting of racing men wbb held to nominate delegates for election to the Metropolitan Racing Club's Conference. The meeting was only an informal one, but representatives from Geraldine, Ashburton, South Canterbury, Fairlie, Hororata, and Tinwald Clubs agreed to support Messrs H. Friedlander and R. H. Pearpoint as their delegates, and these gentlemen were duly nominated. Each of these, country clubs h-ia the privilege of nominating two of its members as delegates, but as so many clubs have decided on Messrs Friedlander and Pearpoint, and have not nominated anyone else, no doubt these gentlemen will be elected without opposition.
