The unemployed have resolved to urge the Government to cultivate vacant lands in the vicinity of London. Paris, Sept. 25.
The miners of Borinage have struck, and the Carmaux miners have resolved to follow their example. San Francisco, Sept. 25.
Owing to a dispute among sailors a bomb was exploded in a lodginghouse occupied by non-unionists. Four were injured and two killed.
Welllngton, Sept. 25,
The Trades and Labour Council are still endeavouring to bring about a reconciliation with the Liberal Association and gather in the unions which still hold aloof from affiliation. A letter from the Ballarat Council congratulating the workers in New Zealand on the many liberal and progressive measures passed by Parliament, which were first contained in the labor programme was read. Sept 26. The Labor Department assisted 272 unemployed last month. The number of men employed on Government works on roads and railways (co-operative) is 1118, and by the Public Works Department, 752.
Dunedin, Sept. 25,
The Trades and Labor Council and the political workers have nominated Messrs Piukerton, Earnshaw, Hutohison and Wm. Dickson for the city, but the latter retires.
