A largo cargo steamer, the Hagelbranch, was bound to Melbourne, and while off Kangaroo Island, a terrific explosion took place plaoe in the lazarette. The boatswain had gone down with a lighted lamp, and some anti-foul composition, which had'broken loose, generated gas which exploded.
