GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
The above Board’s monthly meeting was held on Tuesday evening. Present— Messrs A. White (chairman), J. Williams, R. Taylor, R. Y. Ferguson, J. M, Sutherland, R. Hammond, and W. S. Maslin. CORRESPONDS N CK. From Mr A. C. Harding, asking that a pipe culvert be put across the road leading from his section.—Granted. From Er R. T. Ferguson, applying to have his name placed on rate-roll for reserve lately occupied by Mr M. Connolly, also requesting Board to have a pipe put across the footpath at his reserve. —Left to the Works Committee with power to deal with. From Messrs Taylor & Mundell, asking the Board to pay half cost of putting down a concrete kerb and asphalt on footpath adjoining sale yards on Forest Street, for 3 chains distance/ Applicants would pay half cost and get work done at once, and at as cheap a rate as possible.—Agreed to. Two ratepayers wrote complaining that the board’s town scavenger was not doing his duty satisfactorily, and hud left their water-closets unattended to for weeks after notice had been given.—Board determined to take decisive action in this matter, and it was left with the Works Committee to finally deal with. From Survey Office, Christchurch, intimating the amount due to the Board for thirds accrued was 6s Bd.—Amount to be expended on road work in front of section at which thirds accrued. From the Timaru Harbour Board, stating that the advance of shingle accummulatiou on the south side of the breakwater during the past three months has been 50 feet from the previous high and low water marks, and the bottom of shingle bank respectively, and requesting that Board’s plan be returned for correction. —To be attended to. NEW BRIDGE. A petition was received from seventeen ratepayers, requesting that “The Board will take into favourable consideration the offer made by the Geraldine Road Boaad to re-build the footbridge over the Waihi; at the spot where the planking is now placed, the expense of which, we understand,, is estimated at about £25. We feel it unnecessary to point out the convenience the bridge would be not only to children attending the public school, but to all inhabitants of the town.” Messrs M. 0. Orbell and F. Wilson Smith waited on the Board to support the petition. The Board resolved-“ That the Geraldine Road Board be asked to submit specifications for the proposed footbridge to be considered at its next meeting.” asphalt crossings. The progress money on Mr W. G. Sherratt Go’s, contract for asphalt crossings was passed for payment, Some discussion arose as to whether the contract had been faithfully carried out according to specifications, but on the latter being produced it was found that the only breach of contract was at one crossing, where the undergravel was not broken to the specified size. Mr R. Taylor characterised the specifications as rotten j and members generally were dissatisfied with the job. Mr 0 E. Sherratt said he was confident that at the end of the three months specified the job would be completed tQ the utmost satisfaction of a«7 sensible: minded works committee on the Board, and, if not, ho would return the contract money. It was resolved on the motion of Mr W. S. Maslin—“ That in future no one in the permanent employ of the Board be allowed to tender for Board’s work.” overseer’s report; The overseer’s report was read and considered satisfactory. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £54 12s Id were passed for payment. OUTSTANDING RATES. Resolved—“ That notice «f all outstanding rates be given persons owing same.” The Board then rose.
