GERALDINE LIBERAL ASSOCIATION.

A fairly representative meeting was held in the Good Templar He'l Geraldine, re the forming of a Liberal Association. Mr W. S. Maslin, who was chairman pro tern, said he hoped everyone pre-ent recognised the desirability of forming an Association such as they proposed to form that night. One thing should be guarded against, viz., the admission to membership of persons who were not Liberals and who were not prepared to support the Liberal side. There had been some coiresponding with the Secretary of the Christchurch Liberal Association, and copies of rules and other information respecting the forming of the Association were expected by Friday's mail, but they had not come. The only thing the meeting then could da was to decide on the formation of an Association aM enroll members. He (Mr Maslin) believed that the cause of Liberalism was progressing and was gaining a large hold on the Geraldine district. (Applause). Mv Amos Sherratt moved—" That this meeting forms itself into a Liberal Association." He did so because ho could sae that Liberalism was becoming universally prominent j not only in New

I Zealand but in tho Old Country he could see that things were trending toward* equalism. That being the case they should not be men of one idea only, dome would no doubt say " You are forming yourselves into an Association to get the Direct Veto." No, that was not so, but they were going to uphold everything that would give the working man his rights. They would advocate the principle of the people ruling by the people, and that was the spirit of Liberalism. (Applause). Mr Bennett seconded the proposition, which was carried unanimously. Mr E. Robson was appointed secretary pro tem, and a provisional committee of nine members were authorised to draw up rules, formulate a Liberal platform, and get the necessary data to work upon, and report at a future meeting. COMMITTEE. Messrs A. Sherratt, P. D. Herdman, J. M. Sutherland, R. Annan, W. S. Maslin, L. Newport, and E. Robson were appointed a committee. At the cloae of the meeting the committee transacted some business in connection with the Liberal cause.
