Protests.—At a special meeting of the University Council at Dunedin, to consider the Endnvvment and Educational Reserves Bill, the committee reported that the Bill if passed world give the Government absolute power to sweep under its provisions < endowments of every deserpition, including i endowments for church purposes, education ■ athenmaums, etc. Members expressed , alarm at the provisions of the Bill, and it 1 was decided to communicate with members in Wellington, and ask them to protect the interests of the University.
