Bankryptcy Oases.— At the Supreme Court, Dunedin, on Monday, Cornelius Johns supposed to have absconded, was abjudicated a bankrupt, as also was Betsy Leieghton. In the latter case counsel took the precaution of putting in at wo-f old plea, as under the new' Bankruptcy Act it was doubtful whether a married woman could be adjudicated on proof of an act of bankruptcy which could be relied on in such a case wepe the debtor not a married woman.
E-RIVAL OF THE NEW WATERBURY. It is not often that the arrival of a shipment of goods in New Zealand waters is so generally welcomed as the arrival of the present parcel of Waterbury watches. By the fire on the Ruahine 3000 Waterburys—gold, silver, and nickel—were destroyed, and this interruption in the regular inflow has keep the market bare till the lauding of the present parcel. The Hon. Dr. Pollen stated iu the Legislative Council that 95.000 Adult Males. pays the whole of this colony’s taxation, maintains its Civil Service, runs its railways and public works, and forms the nucleus of the colony’s properity; and yet to this very limited population over 120.000 Waterbueys have been sold and delivered, and the shipment now landing consists of 2880 Wateryurys, which is followed by the Elinor Vernon, due iu a month with 2880 More, all sold already to the wholesale trade, who have been waiting supplies for from three to four months. Large as these figures are, two other shipments are to arrive before Christmas, and we venture to affirm that no other watch can show a sale iu New Zealand during the period covered since the Waterbury advent of One to Each Hundred Waterburys. Jewellers and retail dealers will kindly send their orders to our agents as quickly as possible. WATERBURY WATCH CO., Bond and Crawford Streets, Dunedin,
