THE DAVIES-MILLEDGE CASE.

In the Legislative Assembly last night upon a motion to go into Supply, an amendment was proved condemning the unsatisfactory portion of the Mercantile Bank cases, aud a heated debate took place. Mr Isaacs, ex-Solicitor General, said that if he were still at tho head of the Department, Mr Pauton, the magistrate who refused to issue summonses, should not be allowed to remain in the service for another hour. Tho Premier said the Government haij nothing to do with the Grand Jury, or with the Magistrate’s decision- Mr Shiejs said the history of the gases was a long and dreary record of miserable bungles. The amendment was eventually negatived by 33,
August 20. Further proceedings in connection with the Mercantile Bank have been taken, and yesterday Mr Lorimer, Jqstice of the Peace, took informations against the auditors, manager, and directors (exc ;pi Sir Graham Berry), on a charge of issuing a false balance sheet,
