HUNT CLUB STEEPLECHASES.
The steeplechase organised by the South Canterbury Hunt Club to wind up the hunting season took place on Thursday afternoon on a course over farms on the Temuka road and opposite the Seadown station. The weather was fine, and the attendance good, and representative of all parts of South Canterbury. Results : Steeplechase, of 10 sovs; second horse to receive 3 sovs out of stake. Distance about 4 miles. Open to qualified hunter*. Mr C. H.Wynn Williams' Mount Cook (Owner) 1 Mr B. R. Macdonald'a Muckross (Owner) 2 Mr M\ C. Studholme's Darkie (W. Bruce) 3 Mr F. WederelFs Catesby ... (Owner) 4 Mr Wynn Williams's Nick (Williams), Mr H. W. Postlethwaite's Senator (Owner), Mr C. Crowe's Blue Boy (Owner), Mr T. Teschemaker's Cracker, (C. Cornelius), Mr M. C Studholme's Jorrocks (Allen), Mr A. G. Macdonald's Dignity (Owner), Mr Higginbotham's Shimmel (Owner), Mr Melville Gray's Pembroke ('>wner), Dr Thomas's Demon (Owner), Mr Kernohan's Ballymena (Owner), Mr Gordon Wood's Juggler (Owner), and Mr E T. Rhodes's Black Knight (Mee) also started. The race was a splendid one, and only won by a length or two, with Darkie a very, close third. Time—lOrnin 52Jsec. Hack Race, of 2 sovs ; 1 mile. Mr H. Lovegrove's Mary 1 Mr Hedley's Minnie ~ 2 Mr Malcolmson's Jessie 3 Mr T. Thomson's Actress also ran. Won easily. Hunters' Flat Handicap, of 3 sovs; 1 mile; for hunters the property of and to be ridden by members of any recognised Hunt Club. Mr Allen's Little Wonder, lOst 71b ... 1 Mr Lovegrove's Mary, list 71b ... 2 Mr Kernohan's Prohibition, lOst 71b 3 Mr Simons' Kate, 12st, and Mr Crowe's Boy Blue, 10at 71b (B. R. Macdcnald, carried 111 b over) also started.
