TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the above was held on Tuesday evening. Present Messrs J. W. Salmond (ohairman), D. Taylor, T. F. Hooper, C. Bates, G. Levens, and J. Grant. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and and dealt with as follows : From the Education Board, notifying the payment to the credit of the board of the sum of £ll 7a 6d, incidentals for current quarter. From the Savings Bank Department, covering receipt for £2 Bs. This is the first payment since its establishment. From Mr E. M. Blake, Architect, Timaru, applying for the use of one of the class-rooms on Tuesday evenings for two hours weekly, from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m., for the purpose of establishing a drawingclass. The classes, Mr Blake Btated, would include the necessary subjects for teachers' examinations, viz., model drawing, solid geometry, and perspective, and several teachers h;id expressed themselv«s as willing to join the class. The committee were asked to state what terms could be agreed upon, as the room would require extra cleaning, also occasional fires. The applicant stated he was piepared to obtain necessary lighting. It was resolved on the motion of Mr Bates, seconded by Mr Grant—- " That Mr Blake be granted the use of one of the class-rooms subject to his making his own arrangements for lighting, fuel, and for caretaker's services." The Secretary of tho Education Board forwarded a summary of attendance returns for tho quarter ending June 30th, showing that the strict average attendance at Temuka was 277, or two above the standard required.

Mr Levens stated that the school had been closed practically since last meeting and he had, therefore, no report to submit, Messrs Levens and Hooper were appointed visitors for the ensuing month. Accounts to the amount of £6 5s 6d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
