RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Geraldine— Tuesday, August 8.
[Before Messrs R. H. Pearpoint and EL W. Moore, J.P.'s.] UNREGISTERED DOG.
Arthur Best was charged with being the owner of an unregistered dog; and also of a dangerous dog not under proper control. Austin Lysaght, deposed that on July 30th lie saw the dog amongst Mr Gregan's sheep, making away with a lamb in its mouth, iu the riverbed. Did not know whose dog it was, and did not see young Gregan.
Thomas Gregan, son of James GregaD, saw the dog going away with a lamb towards the Pleasant Valley bridge. Called out to the animal and frightened it away; it went to Mr Best's house. The dog was not muzzled. Spoke to Mr Best, who said he would not kill the dog. To Defendant: Did eay that the dog did not kill the lamb.
Arthur Best, defendant, admitted neglecting to register his dog, but had done so now. He had kept his dog on the chain so that he would not annoy the neighbors, and this had made the animal a little wild. Mr Grogan's sheep were on tho riverbed close to defendant's land, and he (defendant) did not deny that the dog was amongst them, but he did deuy that tho dog was dangerous and not under proper control. This was the first complaint he ever had about the dog. The Bench advised defendant to keep tho dog tied up or muzzled, and fined him 10s, with costs, for keeping a dog unregistered. The Court then roso.
