NAVIES OF THE GREAT POWERS.
An official handbook, published for the use of officers of the French navy, gives some interesting particulars as to the vessels of war of the various Powers that are capable of taking part in modern warfare, excluding all the obsolete typos of a few years ago. They are as follows England ; 22 ironclads, 7 ironclad cruisers, 5 ironclad coastguard ships, 07 cruisers, 10 torpedo cruisers, 19 counter torpedo, and 97 torpedo boats. France : 19 ironclads, 1 ironclad cruiser, 7 ironclad coastguard ships, 8 ironclad gunboats, 29 crui-ers, 5 torpedo cruisers, 20 counter torpedo, and 171 torpedo boats. Italy : 10 ironclads, 24 cruisers, 11 torpe do cruisers, 7 counter torpedo, and 117 torpedo boats. Russia ; 0 U ironclad cruisers, 1 ironclad gunboat, 17 cruisers, 5 torpedo cruisers, and 51 torpedo boats, i Germany : 2 ironclads with a speed of from fourteen to sixteen knots, 7 coastguard ships, 18 cruisers, 1 torpedo, cruiser, 14 counter torpedo, y,nd 22 torpedo i boats.
Austria '■ 2 ironclads, 3 cruisers, 3 torpedo cruisers, 6 counter torpedo, and 54 torpedo baats.
