GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The above committee met on Thursday evening. .Present Messrs W. H. Walton (chairman), J. W. Pye, J. H. Dean, Gore and T. Bowkett. The headmaster reported : The average attendance for last quarter was boys, 87,89; girls, 99.14. Total 187.03. Highest attendance, 212; average weekly roll 237. The attendance last week was bad,, this week it is good, the average for the present quarter being boys, 86.9; girls, 100.6. Total 187.5. Highest attendance, 201; weekly roll, 235. The stationery money collected last quarter amounted to only 12s 3d, only 29 children out of 126 having contributed. The children of Standard I. have have not yet been asked to contribute, as they, at present, do not use pens and ink. T, Cheyne Farnie, Head Master. It was resolved to draw the attention of parents who'havqjiot paid the stationery fees, to the fact that unless they pay the committee must cease to have fires in the school owing to want of funds. The visiting committee reported everything satisfactory at the school excepting that the school was slovenly cleaned, and closets were not scrubbed as per agreement with the janitor. Also two roller towels were necessary for girls on sewing days when washing their hands. Mr T. Bowkett gratuitously offered to supply rollers, and it was agreed to obtain the towels. Eesolved —“ That the attention of the janitor be drawn to the provisions of his agreement respecting work at the school.’ Messrs T. Sherratt and Gore were appointed visitors for the ensuing month. Eesolved —“ That the Geraldine Town Board be asked to form the road leading to the school, which is at present ii a very bad state and necessitates children crossing paddocks.” Eesolved—“ That the Arbor Day Committee be waited on, asking them why no commn uication was received from them re the tree planting demonstration.” The committee then rose.
