A Large Claim. —Two ladies of wealth social position, and refined manners evidently of Swedish extraction, residing in Sioux county, Pa., have presented a claim for 165 acres of land in Homestead. The estate is of enormous value. The town of Homestead and the Carnegie Iron and Steel Works stand upon the principal part of the property. The ladies base their claim upon the fact that the land was bought by a Swede named Charles Johannsen in 1849, that he never relinquished his rights, and that they are his heirs-at-law. OltANdfilSM.— At the annual celebration at Wellington of the Battle of the Boyne, the following resolutions were carried (1) That this meeting of representative Orangemen regret that the present Government so forgot themselves as to violate the great principle of religious equality by granting to the Magdala Asylum a sum of £SOO out of the public funds of the colony; (2) That we protest against grants of public money being made to any denomination as unfair and likely to create feelings of irritation amongst the various religious denominations; (3) That while we disapprove of State patronage to any sect or party, we contend for equal citizenship alike to all denominations, Protestant and Roman Catholic j (4) That we pledge ourselves to use every lawful means to maintain the present system of public education, and use our best endeavours to secure the return of candidates at the next General Election who will pledge themselves on the public platform to preserve inviolate to the people of the colony the inestimable boon of our present system of education, which gives to every parent the right of giving his child good education.
