ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, July 6, The whalers of Dundee are forming a company with a capital of £60,000, to conduct operations in the Antarctic Ocean, from the Falkland Islands. The four-masted barque Gowauburn, Captain Gebhardt, 1999 tons, which left Newcastle with a cargo of coal for San Francisco on February 15th last, is reported at Lloyd’s as missing. (A large quantity of wreckage bearing the name of this vessel has been found between Waitara and Manukau, leaving but little doubt that she was lose in the vicinity of the New Zealand coast.) The men who were rescued from the mine in Thornhill are dying.. The entombed miners chalked farewells on the side of the pit when they knew that ail chance of rescue was gone. Up to the present ninety-eight bodies have been recovered. When the ten menwhowete rescued alive were brought out of the mine, their relatives were almost frantic with joy, and most affecting scenes were witnessed. July 8. Mr Fulton, a farmer, of Napier, summoned Mr James Alexander to Guildhall for alleged misappropriation of 6.4 bales of wool, with intent to defraud. By the floods in China ten thousand people have been drowned. July 8. The Don Juan was burnt off Manilla. Most of those on board jumped overboard, and it is estimated that fully 145 Chinese were drowned. Washington, July 4. News from Honolulu states that a dynamite conspiracy has been discovered there. Messrs Walker, Sinclair, and Crick, the promoters, have been arrested, and twenty prominent me a are said to be implicated, including nine ex-Miuisters. Four more banks in Colorado have suspended. July 7. A cyclone destroyed half the town of Pomeroy, in lowa, and 100 persons were drowned.

AUSTRALIAN CABLE. Sydney, July 7. The Cabinet have decided to retrench still further, and some £200,000 or £300,000 will be deducted from the votes for various Departments. An attempt was made last night to sink the steamer Weudouree by scuttling her, the circular pump door being opened and the valves unscrewed. The engine room was full of water before the outrage was discovered. The engineer of the Burrumbeet dived down and shut the door, thus saving the vessel. Strikers are suspected. Adelaide, July 7.
