At the Burnside Market on Wednesday the following business was transacted; — Store Cattle—-. These change hands in small lots at prices in favor of sellers, but there are no transactions of any magnitude transpiring. Store Sheep—Some demand is still experienced for sound, good crossbred wethers and young ewes in forward condition, and when in the market command prices relatively higher than those obtaining far * at > but thore is ver y lifctle demand "iQV ftg«4 9P m & ed s° rts of iu " different breeding. Pias—l39 were penned. Competition was lairly active, but the supply was sufficient for requirements. Suckers brought 5s 6d to 13s 6d; slips, 14s to 15s 6d; stores, 20s to 23s 6d; porkers, 25s to 80s; baconers, 36s to 525; extra heavy, 58s to 645.
MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL. London, July 2. The total quantity of 'wool catalogued up to date is 144,200 bales, of which 121,600 have been sold. Crossbreds are easier. American representatives are not making any purchases. It is reported that French buyers intend to operate largely at the Melbourne sales in October. Two cargoes of Australian wheat have been sold at 28s 6d. Tallow, medium mutton, 28s; beef, 27s 6d. New Zealand rabbit skins, fair to good, lss|d. The Bank of Australasia is issuing a Napier Harbour Board loan of £200,000, at 5 per cent., with a minimum of 98. Tenders will be received up to July 10th. Mr Wilson has arranged with a number of butter and bacon experts and buyers to visit the Australian colonies to advance July 3. The creditors of the London Chartered Bank have accepted the reconstruction scheme, Mr Blair and one other dissenting. Proxies representing 2,588,100 shares supported the scheme, and 96,000 opposed. The shareholders unanimously adopted the proposals. The creditors and shareholders have appointed Mr Stewart as liquidator. Ottawa, July 3. The Commercial Bank of Manitoba has suspended payment. The Premier of Columbia is urging Mr M. Bowell, the Acting-Premier of Canada, to negotiate for freetrade between Canada and Australia. Mr Bowell is fayqrable to the idea.
