At the Burnside Market on Wednesday the following business was transacted:— Fat Cattle—Only 139 head yarded. An active demand was experienced for all descriptions, but more particularly for prime cattle, of which there was only a small number forward, and prices ruling showed an advance on last week’s. Best bullocks brought £8 10a to £9 12s Gd : one extra heavy, £lO 7s 6d ; medium to goo d, £T to £8 53; light weights, £5 0s t o
£6 17s 6d; best cows, £6 15s to £8 7b 6d; medium to good, “£5 os to £6 10s; light and aged, £3 10s to £4 17s 6d. Fat Sheep—267o penned, of which 100 were merinos. A large proportion were extra prime heavy weights and wethers suitable for freezers. A good demand was experienced, but values, as compared with those ruling last week, were about 6d per head lower. Best wethers realised from 16s 6d to 18s (a few small pens of extra heavy 19s 9d to 20s 6d) ; medium wethers, 15s to 16s ; light do, 13s to 14s; ewes, 16s to 17s 9d; merinos, up to 11s 3d.

Oats, Algerian, Is 8d to Is 10-Jd; danish, Is 9d to Is ll£d ; stout, 2s. Maize, 3s sd. Barley, Cape, 2s 2d to 2s 3d). Bran, B|d ; pollard, 9£d to lOd. Potatoes are steady at £3 to £3 ss. Butter, New Zealand, 10|d. Cheese, prime New Zealand, s£d. New Zealand hemp, fair to good, brings £l7 to £l9 per ton. The Court has sanctioned the reconstruction scheme of the Standard Bank on condition that £500,000 worth of preference shares are taken up before July 21st. Adelaide, June 28. Wheat, 3s l£d. Oats, 3s 3d to 3s 4d. Barley, Cape, 2s 6d to 3s Id. Bran, 9£d; pollard, lOd to 10|d. Brisbane, June 29. Messrs Wallace, Warren-and Co. have failed with liabilities amounting to £32,000.
MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL. London, June 28. Competition has improved at the wool sales and prices have a firmer tendency. A very poor selection was offered. June 29. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 3,724,000 quarters, and for the Continent 1,664,000 quarters. Shaw-Savill Company’s shares are at £9 ss. Mr Black, of Queensland, recommends the adoption of the American system of inspection of meat before shipment, with the issue of a Government certificate. Competition at the wool sales is good. A large quantity of New Zealand sold at firm prices. Hakatoramea brought Is 2d, Clarence Is 2£d, and Cronaght Is 3£d. Goldsbrough Mort & Co.’s petition will be heard on July Bth. The estimated visible supply of American wheat is 73,700,000 bushels.
