The Canterbury Farmers' Association, Limited, (per Mr J. Mundell, auctioneer), report on the horse market at Tatteraall's as follows for the.week ending Saturday, June 24th, 1893 '•-- Notwithstanding the inclement weather a large attendance of buyers and others interested in horse-flesh mustered at the hour of starting. The presence of a bayer for export made competition keen thromjh,-. ,' out the sale, resulting in a clearance of all good s#rts ot v^ UUCT draughts to auot'.'on. " The entries consisted of 30 horses of all classes, t}va major portion of which was sold at the following quotations: Draughts (young, sound and to £25; light and nged do., £9 to £1210s; light haunts horses, £ll 10s to £l4; hftolcfleya, £t 10s to £9. .Weedy sorts were unsaleable. Good milling, prime short feed, Is lOd to Is tartarians for seed, bright, Is lid to 2s. Hops—la f.0.b., Nelson. Potatoes —Good derwents, G2s 6d to 655. (wanted, supplies short during the week,)
Pigs—4Jd for suitable sizes and|quality. Hams, 9d ; sides, 6Jd. Chaff has demand, prime, 45s to s»s—----52s 6d for extra good quality ; good, 40s to 42s 6d. Salt Butter—Demand quiet, 7|d, packages extra ; prime quality only wanted. Cheese —ln better demand, Akaroa (large), 4jd to 4£d ; factory, 4}d to sd. Honey—Extracted, 561 b tins, 4£d; other sorts from 3id to 4|d. Grass Seeds—Ryegrass, 2s to 2s 6d; machined up to 3s 3d; old pasture to 3s 9d ; cocksfoot, 2£d to 4d. Melbourne onions, £6, none in the market; Canterbury, £5 10s. Roller flour, £7 10s to £8; stone, £6 10s to £7 ; 50's, 10s more. Bran, £2 10s to £2lss. Pollard, £3los. Sheepskins—At auction on Tuesday butchers' best crossbreds brought 3s 10s to 4s 6d ; medium to good, 3s 4d to 3s 9d ; best green merinos, Is lOd to 3s Id; lambskins, 2s 8d to 3s 9d; full-woolled crossbreds (dry), 4s to 5s 4d ; best, 5s 8d to 6s 6d ; some extra heavy up to 7s 6d ; full-woolled merinos, best, 3s 8d to 5s 3d ; good, 2s 8d to 3s 6d; dry pelts, 4d to Is 4d. Prices showed a fall on late quotations. Hides—The market is steady at late quotations—vk., for well-flayed hides, 601 b and over, 2d to 2|d; medium, IJd to l£d; inferior and slippy, Id to per lb. Tallow—All lots coining into store have been easily quitted at: For best rendered mutton, 21s 6d to 22s 6d; medium to good, 18s 6d to 20s 6d; inferior to medium, 15s to 17s 6d; rough fat, 14s to 14s 6d; medium to good, 12s 6d to 13s 6d; inferior to medium, lis to 12s per cwt.
