ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, June 22.. Sir William McKinnon, Bart., is dead. Corporal Serry, of the New South Wales Cavalry, took first prize in the sword and lance contest at Dublin, and Corporal Cole first in the lance and bayonet contest. Number 1 team of the Victorian Artillery, secured first prize for wrestling on horseback, and Driver Ryan was first in the lemon cutting and second in the Victoria Cross competition. Some of the other men secured places in several events. In the libel action brought by Sir William Worsely against Truth, a verdict of £l5O damages was returned in favor of plaintiff. Heavy rain is fallen in London. Sir Edwin Smith, of Adelaide, has made an offer to Mr Astley Cooper, the original promoter of the proposed panBritaunic competitions, to contribute £IOO towards the expenses of the Australian team of athletes which is to visit England next year, on condition that nine other residents of Australia subscribe a similar amount each within a year. June 23. H.M.S. Howe, which was floated after being ashore on the coast of Spain, has arrived safely at Sheerness. The members of the Australiau troops while in Dublin were presented with gold medals as a memento of their visit.
The Daily Chronicle states that Cardinal Moran, of Sydney, and Archbishop Vaughau have been reconciled. The Pope, it is said, took the initiative in bringing the clericals together, and His Holiness is reported to have blamed Cardinal Moran for his action in couuection with the funeral expenses of Archbishop Vaughan's brother. Mr Schnadhorst, who recently toured Australia and New Zealand, has resigned his position as secretary of the National Liberal Federation Association. The reason assigned is ill-health.
