FOOTBALL.
A match was played on Thursday last between teams representing Timaru Third and Temuka Second, which resulted in a win for Temuka by six points to five. Timaru won the toss, and Robinson kicked off for Temuka. Scrums followed in the Yellows’ 25, Sheen being very prominent. From a long kick by Bilton Robinson marked near the centre, from which Grant kicked a beautiful goal. The game was now very even, till McGuinness got the ball, and, passing all the Temuka backs, scored between the posts, LeCren easily converting. Half time was then called. The ball being again in motion, the Temuka forwards get on a good dribble, a force down resulting. From a scrum in Temuka’s 25 Hooper smartly passed to Fenton, who outpaced all his opponents, and scored near the corner flag. • The try was not enhanced. Time was soon afterwards called. For Temuka Grant, Hooper, Fenton, and Sheen (backs), and Collins, Marshall, Mulhern, Barrett (2), and Spillane (forwards) played well, while Bilton, LeCren, Johnston, McGuinness, Mall, and Philp did good service for Timaru. Messrs Brosnahan and Coy acted as line umpires, and Mr J. Helean as referee.
