TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of this board was held last evening. Present—Messrs J. Blyth (chairman), P. Ooira, W. Storey, and J. W. Miles. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : From Mr C. J. Rayner, stating that Mr Radford was liable for rates on certain properties. From the Colonial Secretary, stating that no Registrar of Electors could be appointed until the new districts came into force. From Mr J, H. Taylor, asking his name to be placed on the rate roll for the Temuka Hotel.—Agreed to. From Mr J. Brown, asking Mr Rowe’s name to be placed on the rate roll for £175, for part of the premises once belonging to Messrs Williams —Agreed to. oolville. ...i the Harbor Board, covering a lithograph map. From Mr Herbert, asking for permission to clean drain pipes near the parsonage. — Work attended to. The name of Mr John Ay son was placed on the rate roll in place of Mr McLeod, and Mr Jenkins in place of Mr Geutlemun’s. From the County Council, stating that the board’s half-yearly contribution to charitable aid was £8 10s 2d. From the Deputy Commissioner of Taxes, stating that by a clerical error Mr Brown was over-taxed by £Bo. Mr Brown, who waited on the board, complained of an increase in his rate of £BO, and asked the board to take off some of the rates for the new bank. He also asked a decrease of the rates of the old bank premises, as they were now idle and there was no chance of them being let for the old rent.—The chairman said the first request was fair, but did not think the second request could be considered. The board would consider the matter,-—Mr Brown then retired, and
the board decided to let the matter stand over for the present. From Sir 'William Blunden, complaining of stray cattle. —It was decided to call the "attention of the police to the matter. From the Fire Brigade, asking for assistance, as the Insurance Association had ceased to give their annual donation.—lt was decided to grant the brigade £25. Mr Coira said complaints were made that some people were in the habit of putting cases on the footpath,thereby causing an obstruction. The chairman said that was a police matter. The clerk was instructed to draw the attention of the police to the matter. overseer’s report. The overseer reported that he had had the pipes in Cass street raised and were working satisfactorily; he had repairs done in the streets. There were many who required to be reminded of fences overhanging footpaths; also with regard to stray cattle. The pipes at the back of Messrs Ayson and Beri’s premises required being looked after. The chairman said the road to Mr Franks’s required looking after. Four loads of shingle would do the whole matter.—lt was resolved to do the work, and the overseer was authorised to get a load of shingle wherever ho requires it. After dealing with other matters, and passing accounts to the amount of £36 6s lOd, the meeting adjourned.
