At the Supreme Court, Wellington, the following sentences wore passed:— George Briggs, burglary, 12 months; Harry Poulson, larceny from the person, 2 years; Samuel Hill and William McCarthy, assault and robbery, 2 years. (His Honor characterised the case as a very bad one). At the Supreme Court, Christchurch, Norman Gustayus Hall, for stealing a cornet from Colonel Bailey, of the Salvation Army, got twelve months’ hard labor. Edward Tan, a Maori, for stealing two cheques, received three months. Daniel Tini, for stealing money and a silver watch, was sentenced to six months. Charles Leslie Nearing, horse stealing, twelve months. John Wilson, a Swede, indecent assault, got three years’ penal servitude, His Honor pointing out that if he had been a more robust man he would have added a flogging to the sentence. Bridget Chalk was found guilty of performing an illegal operation, and was sentenced to four years’ penal servitude.

At the Supremo Court, Dunedin, in re William Henderson, of Gore, solicitor, Mr Justice Ward made an order that the rule nisi was reserved for the Ooupt of Appeal, Mr Henderson to be suspended from acting as a barrister or solicitor till Hie rule is decided. At the District Court, Invercargill, on© Brookes sued D. McFarlane for £2OO damages for injuries sustained by his son by an attack of a monkey belonging to defendant which got loose and worried to child in the street. The child sustained a scalp wound, which had to be sewn up, and W s bitten about the arras, and ho was alleged' to be still suffering from nervous shoclc. The defendant, sent mayor of the town, has a fancy fop keeping foreign animals, birds, etc., which have been a great attraction at poultry shows. He paid £5 into and pleaded, in iiqiti^atioii; tfyat the chilr dren had entered the yard and _ irritated the monkey till it broke its chain. The jury ave judgment for £2O? aud costa £lO 9a.
