OUR VOLUNTEERS.

GERALDINE RIFLES. Colonel Fox inspected the local forces at Geraldine on Tuesday evening, when there was a full muster of men and officers. Colonel Bailey, Major Moore, and Sergeant-Major Jones also being present. The men were put through an hour’s marching and manual exercise, after which they were dismissed. The following are the handicaps in the firing for Lieut. McKenzie’s cup, which comes off to-day. Color-Sergeant Stonehouse, Sergeant Fiefield, and Corporal Bethune, scr. ; Corporals Heatley and Irvine, 3; Private A. Scott, C. Scott, and Sergeant Colbert, 5 ; Private Pizzey 6 ; Private E. Heatley and Sergeant Coles, 7; Privates Wood, Beckley, Ward, Sergeant Brown, Bandmen Logan, Sherratt, and Winefield, 8: Privates Fergusson and Turner, 9 ; Bandsman Kraus, 10 ; Private J, Irvineand Erskine, 12; Privates Bryant, and H. McLeod, 13 ; Private Evans, Lawlor, Weaver, McKay, O’Brien, Howes, McKenzie, Husband, Taylor, and Ensor, 15.

TEMUKA RIFLES. The above company was inspected last night by Colonel Fox. Out of a total roll strength of 46, forty rank and file were an parade. The officers present were Captain Cutten and Lieutenant Whitehead. Colonel Fox was accompanied by Lieutenant-Colonel Bailey and Major Young. Chaplain the Rev. W. E. Giliam, and Staff Sergeant-Major Jones were also present. The company, after inspection, was examined as a column in line by Captain Cutten and Lieutenant Whitehead, and subsequently put through the manual and bayonet exercises by Color-Sergeant Coira, and Sergeants Hobbs and Mason. The recruits present were put through the manual exercise by Color-Sergeant Coira. Before leaving Colonel Pox expressed his pleasure at seeing so good a parade, and said that he found the company in a very satisfactory condition. Tne parade attracted a large attendance of the general public, and the proceedings were watched with a considerable amount of interest.

Earlier in the day the Colonel visited the District High School and inspected the cadets.
