London, May 24. Mr Chesterfield, secretary of the Dock Labourers’s Union at Hull, attempted to commit suicide, being appalled, it is said, by the misery resulting from the recent strike. Out of eight thousand men who wont ou strike there is now only employment sufficient for one thousand of their number. Brussels, May 24. The Mining Conference, by a large majority, voted in favour of a legal eight hours. The minority were exclusively Noith of England and Welsh delegates. The Miners’ Conference passed a vote of sympathy with the French delegates who were expelled from Belgium.
