It is said that thousands of the most undesirable class of foreign immigrants are evading the American regulations every month, by entering the United States via Canada. A balloon carrying three passengers left Brussels on the night, of April Bth., M. Toulet, a professional areonaut, was in charge. Over Etampes, Toulet fell from the balloon, and was dashed to pieces. The other two men continued on their voyage. Vancouver, 8.C., has become dissati-fied with tho misappropriation of funds by the Provincial Government, and is discussing at public meetings tho advisability of separating from the mainland portion of the province. One of the largest irrigating enterprises in the history of the world is about to be undertaken within the confines of San Diego County, California. It is no less than the reclamation of the entire eastern section of San Diego County, comprising the Colorado desert, south of the San Bernardino range. To do this the waters of the Colorado river will be diverted on to the present arid surface. At a meeting of the New York Presbyterians held recently in that city the Bev. J. P. On the night of April 19th a party of Sophomores banded together and made an assault on a junior class. They bound them hand and foot, and branded the letters “ DAO ” on the face of each of them witfy a stick of lunar caustic, besides making marks imitating horns on the forehead. The physicians that they are all branded for life." The offenders have been arrested and dismissed from the university in disgrace, and will now he sued criminally by the sufferers and civilly for heavy damages. Some young women at Mouatehall, belonging to the university, caught this “ hazing” spirit the same night the hoys suffered, laid in wait for six or seven of their schoolfe'lows, whom they branded on their necks, breasts, arms and hands with a strong solution of nitrate of silver, for the purpose, it is asserted, of disfiguring them so that they would be unable to wear evening dress at the senior reception next evening.
