THE GERALDINE TOWN BOARD
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — lii your report of the Geraldine Town Board dated May 4, tenders were called for carting 200 yards of shingle. I along with some others tendered for the work, viz., Jos. Flefield, Is 2£d per yard : T. Sugrue, £0 18s; J.Mulvahill, £9 15s lOd; M. Lawlor, £9 15s; T. Groundwater, llfd per yard. Everyone will allow the last four named were very close. I want to know on what ground did the board decide in favor of Mr Groundwater ? They put the report in the papers in such a manner that many a one would pass it by and think Mr Groundwater was the lowest tenderer. 1 know there are some men on the board who would not stoop to such trickery, but they ought to know that 200 yards at Ilf d per yard is £9 15s 10d. I cannot excuse their chairman, Mr Maslin. I want Mr Maslin or some other member of the board to explain how Mr Groundwater’s tender was accepted before mine, the lowest, or Mr J. Mulvahill’s for the same amount. I suppose if I or Mr Mulvahill had been a Prohibitionist we would have had a better chance. There is a man on the board who parades himself as a great unionist and a friend of the working man —a man who stood for the Road Board last week. If we had a Road Board composed of such men, what,a nice mess we should soon find ourselves in ! No one would get a job from them only their pet fancy men. — I am, etc., Maurice Lawlor.
