RESURRECTIONS.
The New York Advertiser, January 17, had a long article exposing the operations of body snatchers at Washington district of Columbia. According to the story a negro named George W. Marlowe is the King of the Ghouls, and makes no particular secret of his infamous business. He acknowledged having shipped within a year more than 25 subjects to Albany, N.Y., and as many to Portland, Me. He seems willing to ship cadavers to any point, the railroad charges being prepaid. He sends them by express as merchandise, and never has any trouble, although certain precautions must be taken at both ends of the line. His price is2s dol. for each subject, spot caeh. The Washington Medical College are charged only 15d01., having special contracts. He calmly names the different cemeteries from which he secures his subjecis. Although they are guarded he finds no trouble in gathering bodies in when he has orders. “ Bad as the weather was last night,” he remarked, “ I secured four subjects from one grave-yard. During the last year I resurrected and sold 340 subjects, and only 140 came from the ‘ Potters’ Field.’ ” Marlowe is well to do financially, and has two sons who assist him in his business.
