IMPERIAL POLITICS.

The City Corporation have presented a petition to Parliament against the granting of autonomy to Ireland* May 5.
In reply tq Mr T. W. Russell, member for Tyrone, M r Gladstone repeated his statement that ho was prepared to consider the treatment for Ulster separate from thq rest of Ireland- Hp said that he belieyed Mf Papnq}! wpqld have approved of speh a step provided it cord among the conTh„ ..o sections. -...aonalists view the proposal with disfavor, and will protest against it.
May 0. The Conservative party have resolved to resist the separate treatment of Ulster. Mr John Redmond declards that it is impossible for the Nationalists to agree to the creation of an English pale. The Times endorses tho report that the Government have resolved on tho retention of Irish members at Westminster in their full numbers, and that they shall have full power to vote on all subjects. The Opposition decline to accept the proposal, and express great indignation on the question. They also are indignant at Mr Gladstone’s proposed intention to postpone the financial clauses in the Home Rule Bill until the remainder of the Bill has passed through Committee in the House of Commons.
